Welcome to Lessons with Mike! For over two decades, I’ve had the privilege of helping students of all ages discover the joy of making music.
Whether teaching a young beginner their first piano scale, helping a high school singer prepare for a musical theatre audition, or guiding an adult beginner on the acoustic guitar, my goal is always the same: to create an encouraging, personalized environment where every student thrives.
With over 20 years in public school elementary music education and private studio instruction, I bring both deep pedagogical training and real-world performance experience to every lesson.
24 Years as an Elementary Music Educator: Spent over two decades designing standards-based music curricula, directing school performances, and fostering vocal, rhythmic, and instrumental growth for young learners.
University Accompanist & Vocal Coach: Serving as a piano accompanist for musical theatre courses and liturgical performance at the university level.
Commercial & Studio Collaborator: Co-writer, pianist, and vocalist on the children’s album You’re My Baby with American Idol finalist Kimberley Locke, and co-creator of the educational series Mike & Monica’s Music Room.
Master of Science in Education — University of Bridgeport
Bachelor of Science in Education — University of Connecticut
Bachelor of Arts in Voice — University of Connecticut
Every student learns differently. Rather than enforcing a rigid, one-size-fits-all method, I blend foundational technique with the music my students actually love to play.
Build Strong Foundations: We focus on proper technique, pitch accuracy, rhythm, and sight-reading so you have the tools to play anything.
Encourage Creative Expression: Music should be fun! Lessons incorporate improvisation, song selection tailored to student interests, and performance confidence.
Patience & Low-Pressure Growth: Learning an instrument is a journey. I prioritize positive reinforcement so students feel supported at every step.
